PR Tips From the Editor

Yep, I know. It's been awhile.

Miss me? Tongue out

I've been on a blog hiatus so the posts have been few and far between. You know the life we lead, here in America, is jammed packed with busyness and let me tell you I have been BUSY.

Slammed busy is more like it.

And when that happens it's inevitable that things slide through the cracks. Unfortunately, for this last little run, it's been this fabulously twisted marketing blog.

Anyway, I'm back. Off hiatus. Ready to work.

Here are a few quick tips I wanted to share in the context of sharin' the marketing love. These are quick tips from the editor of a Business Journal that will go a long ways toward getting your information published…yes, free.

Ok, here goes.

  1. Write a letter to the editor  - Believe it or not, they are among the most well-read items in the paper. Write a letter commenting on a particular issue, news event or story that appeared in the paper you are interested in.
  2. Write an "Opinion" Editorial - Choose a topic you feel strongly about and argue your case succinctly. If it is chosen, you'll need to be able to provide a head shot of yourself for publication. Leave off any promotional text about you or your company.
  3. Announce a new contract or name change - The "Business Brief" is a section covered in most business publications where local companies get a brief (hence the name) shout out.
  4. Announce a job change or promotion - Like the "Business Brief" section above, this is a standard in business publications and they are usually looking for as much filler in this section as possible. Send photos along with your announcements.
  5. Suggest a story about a business trend - Now, this is a good one because it allows you to work on becoming a source for the publication which goes a long way toward establishing your credibility as a reliable source. It also furthers the idea of creating a relationship with the editor of the publication you want to cover your business.

So…that's it for now. Short and sweet but definitely doable.
